Fun Facts Friday: Why is it Good Friday and not bad Friday?🤔

Taking things in context, today represents the day our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ was tortured and killed on the cross for crimes he didn’t commit. “He committed no sin, neither was deceit found in his mouth. 23 When he was reviled, he did not revile in return; when he suffered, he did not threaten, but continued entrusting himself to him who judges justly” 1 Peter 2:22-23.
The innocent and sinless Son of God was killed and crucified with no proof of any crimes being committed. Mark 10:34 helps give us a visualization of the horror and injustice: “And they will mock him and spit on him, and flog him and kill him….” Considering all of that, shouldn’t today be called bad Friday or deadly Friday instead of Good Friday?Â
Why is today good Friday? Simple, because of all us; living, past, and future. Not because any of us are good, or have ever done anything worthy enough nor because of who we are or what we have. It is simply because of how God feels about us. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life” John 3:16. All of the praise and glory goes to God who loves us enough to make the ultimate sacrifice for us. Not only dying on the cross for us, but being our replacements to take on all of our sins and the punishments for them and fully paying for them all. “24 He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed. 25 For you were straying like sheep, but have now returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.” 1 Peter 2:24-25
There it is, THAT is what makes today Good Friday. Not all of the humiliation, suffering, and separation that Christ endured, but the why of everything is what makes today Good. Without Christ’s death then we would all be doomed to hell for all eternity, we are nothing without Him.
Don’t let all of the facade of the world distract you or keep you from truly understanding and experiencing the true meaning of today. Everyday is a good day to give your life to Christ, if you haven’t already, and Keep Him First. Stay Faithful!
